Requirements
Professional Experience as a Doula
Birth doula experience: Typically at least 2–3 years of active birth support
Diverse case exposure: Ideally, worked with a variety of clients, birth settings, and situations.
2. Education & Certification
Certified doula status: Usually required through a recognized organization (e.g., DONA International, CAPPA, ICEA, ).
Training experience: Previous experience teaching, mentoring, or leading workshops is highly recommended.
3. Knowledge & Competency
Comprehensive understanding of:
Anatomy and physiology of pregnancy, birth, and postpartum
Comfort measures and labor support techniques
Prenatal and postpartum care
Cultural sensitivity and communication
Ethical boundaries and scope of practice
Business knowledge: Contracts, fees, and professional development.
4. Teaching & Facilitation Skills
Ability to create and deliver curriculum for adult learners.
Experience with hands-on demonstrations, role-playing, and interactive learning.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
Ability to adapt teaching to different learning styles.
5. Personal Qualities
Professionalism and reliability.
Empathy, patience, and emotional intelligence.
Passion for mentoring and developing new doulas.
Commitment to ongoing learning and staying current in the field.
6. Application Requirements
Candidates must submit:
Application Form detailing personal and professional background.
Résumé or CV highlighting doula experience, workshops taught, and certifications.
Documentation of at least 7 supported births or postpartum cases
Letters of Recommendation from at least two professional colleagues or clients.
Sample Lesson Plan or Training Outline demonstrating teaching style.
Proof of current doula certification and any relevant insurance.
